Environmentalist Bill Eggertson to talk renewable energy technologies

Registration open for Oct. 25 Sault Climate Hub-hosted webinar Environmentalist Bill Eggertson, president of NetZeroPlus Canada, will be hosting a monthly presentation series on Oct. 25 to discuss renewable energy technologies and discuss issues such as heat pumps, solar panels, wind turbines, and government incentives. He has worked in the renewable energy sector since 1985 and was trained by former U.S. vice-president and environmentalist Al Gore in 2008 while managing the climate security initiative for the UK government. He is committed to reducing carbon emissions through proven actions and market-ready technologies, and increasing the supply from non-carbon renewable energies. The webinar will also touch on proper preparation for an energy audit that will identify options, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET. Eggertson has worked in the renewable energy sector since 1985, including roles with solar, wind and geothermal industry associations and was trained by former U.S. vice-president and environmentalist Al Gore in 2008 while managing the climate security initiative for the UK government. Eggertson was selected as an Olympic torchbearer in 2010 to recognize his work, and renovated his former residence into the Top 20 of energy efficient homes in Canada. Now he is president of NetZeroPLUS Canada, an association that promotes transparency in the energy and emissions space.

“Despite small pockets of denial, most Canadians now accept that excessive carbon emissions have a negative impact on our environment, and are warming to the aspiration of a “Net Zero” future,” Eggertson wrote in a 2021 Postmedia column. “But very few understand what this concept involves, and this lack of awareness poses significant risk to any efforts designed to clean up our act.” Canada can, and must, reduce emissions “drastically” through a large number of proven actions and market-ready technologies, and must increase the supply from non-carbon renewable energies, he wrote. “But, before we blindly head down any of the numerous promised paths to a Net Zero future, each of us must clearly understand the magnitude and scope of this challenge on a macro and on a micro level,” Eggertson wrote. “Each Canadian must own the 45,000 (or 10,000) pounds of annual carbon for which each of us is responsible, and agree on an action plan that has a good chance of saving our planet. The webinar, which will also touch on proper preparation for an energy audit that will identify options, begins at 7:30 p.m. Register at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/home-renewable-energy-retrofit-options-tickets-735590580227?aff=erelexpmlt or use the Zoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82477746916?pwd=rLRr9LckAQAEqOlbnUeer6pA95oIci.1#success
