Calgarians cook for mental health

Over a hundred people got together Thursday for CARYA’S first Top Chef event in support of mental well-being. CaryA’s first Top Chef event in Calgary, Calgarians gathered to raise funds for mental health services for the local community. The event, which is free of charge and allows participants to register via a local website, exceeded expectations and organizers plan to return next year for another challenge. CARYA's CEO, Paula Telfer, emphasized the importance of supporting mental health in the community and the need for support.

Over a hundred people got together Thursday to enjoy an evening full of flavor and flair in CARYA’S first Top Chef event in support of mental well-being.

Four Calgary competitors teaming up with culinary masters in a mouth-watering competition.

“We have rallied up some incredible movers and shakers from the corporate side of things, paired them with the local culinary community and they are doing a cook of to raise funds for mental health services for CARYA,” said Tiffany Stevenson, director of social investments with CARYA,

Mike Procee teamed up with Chef J.P. Gerritsen, Tyler Chisholm paired with Chef Melissa Lamothe, Connor Curran teamed up with Chef Andrea Harling and Dean Smith alongside Chef Sean Cutler, together in a display of culinary prowess for a common cause that impacts thousands of Calgarians each year.

“The importance of supporting mental health in our community is critical, there are so many people that need support that don’t know where to turn and can’t find the supports that they need and that is what CARYA is here to do,” Paula Telfer, CEO of CARYA, said.

“Our programs are barrier free so free of charge and there’s quite a variety of them and individuals can contact us our website is caryacalgary.ca , that’s an incredible place to start or pop by, we are here at village commons tonight located at the East Village,” Stevenson added. “Times are tough out there and it’s so inspiring to see the community come together in this incredible way,”

Organizers say the event exceeded expectations and is meant to return next year for another yummy challenge.
