Shawn Portelance, 35, of Val Rita, has been charged with failure, or refusal to comply, possession of a Schedule I substance, methamphetamine, and careless driving. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 20.

On Oct. 19, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers from the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a collision on in Harty.

When officers arrived on scene and spoke with the driver of the pickup truck, they determined they had been consuming intoxicating substances.
The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. The driver then refused to comply with the testing.
As a result of the investigation, Shawn Portelance, 35, of Val Rita, has been charged with failure, or refusal to comply with demand; possession of a Schedule I substance, methamphetamine; and careless driving.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on Nov. 20.
