Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner is making sure he looks good at the 2023 Heritage Classic.

The 24-year-old Edmonton native was seen breaking in his special gear for the event during Monday morning’s practice at Rogers Place.

The getup takes heavy inspiration from Oilers legend Grant Fuhr, who had a similar look while playing with the team in the 1980s. The orange blocker and orange middle part of the pads specifically invoke memories of how Fuhr looked in the Edmonton net.

Of course, this won’t be the full look for Skinner during the game. The Oilers Heritage Classic uniform will include brown pants, which aim to invoke the look of vintage leather gear, as well as a special jersey made specifically for the event.

The jersey has a unique look as it is inspired by the Edmonton Mercurys, a team that represented Canada and won gold at the 1950 Olympic Games in Oslo, Norway.

Skinner’s getup has already got fans excited for the big game on social media.

This is certainly a welcome piece of Heritage Classic news. The Oilers recently announced they may be without Connor McDavid for the big game after the captain suffered an injury on Saturday night. On the other end, the Flames might have to play without defenceman Rasmus Andersson after he was suspended for four games.

To add to the excitement, the NHL has recently revealed what the field at Commonwealth Stadium will look like for the game. Giant hockey players and pipelines have been integrated into the design.

Outside of aesthetics, fans will also be able to enjoy a performance from Nickelback at the second intermission and a free pre-game concert from The Beaches at Clarke Stadium. Not to mention a free festival at the Fan Park in Ice District in the days leading up to the game.

If you want to see it all live in action, you can still find tickets to the game on the Ticketmaster website.
