Event pays tribute to local excellence The annual South Huron Business and Community Awards Gala in Exeter, Ontario, saw local businesses and individuals honoured for their community involvement. The event was a collaboration between the South Hurong Chamber of Commerce and the Exeter BIA, and featured guest speaker Mac Voisin. The South HurON Connection Centre was awarded the Community Advancement Award for its services such as a thrift store, free shower and laundry facilities, access to counselling and service providers. In addition, Bowen received the Citizen of the Year Award for her volunteer work with the EXeter 150 committee and the sesquicentennial celebrations. McLean, past-president of the Huron County Law Association, has done legal aid work for those who don't qualify for legal aid.

EXETER – Local businesses and individuals were honoured for their achievements at the recent South Huron Business and Community Awards Gala.

Held Thursday, Oct. 19, at the South Huron Rec Centre, the gala featured Eddington of Exeter’s James Eddington as emcee, and guest speaker Mac Voisin, founder of M&M Meat Shops.

Once again, this year’s event, a collaboration between the South Huron Chamber of Commerce and the Exeter BIA, saw awards handed out to local businesses and individuals, whose community involvement was spotlighted.

In receiving the Citizen of the Year Award, Bowen was recognized for her volunteer work with the Exeter 150 committee and the sesquicentennial celebrations this year. Bowen also volunteers her time on recruitment for local health care, networking with medical students and enticing them to live and work in South Huron.

In addition, Bowen is co-chair of the South Huron heritage committee, which sees her involved in many community projects, including the campaign for a new fence at the Exeter Cemetery.

The South Huron Connection Centre, situated at Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle, received the Community Advancement Award. The centre includes a thrift store, free shower and laundry facilities, access to counselling and service providers. The centre also addresses food insecurity by providing hot meals, as well as a food hamper program.

McLean, who was called to the Ontario bar more than 50 years ago, has drawn more than 13,800 wills during his career and his firm has completed thousands of real estate transactions.

McLean is also past-president of the Huron County Law Association.

He has also done legal aid work, including pro bono work for those who don’t qualify for legal aid.

He and his wife Angela are also major contributors to the South Huron Hospital and Jessica’s House.
